Tesla’s Flying Roadster Revealed: Everything That Happened in 10 Minutes

The interesting bit I wanted to highlight is the steer by wire. We’ve had throttle by wire for a while now, which I’m not a huge fan of, but steer by wire is a solid no thank you. A severe enough software, firmware, or sensor bug and you could be dead (at least with throttle by wire on vehicles you can pull in the clutch or shift to neutral). Having just done a lot of driving through Colorado mountain passes at 12,000 feet, there are a lot of roads with a severe drop off where you can’t afford a steering glitch. And beyond gimmicky, why would you want the thrusters? How many inadequately trained owners are going to die with that technology, and what will it cost to refill? It is mostly nitrogen and Elon hinted that the car might be able to refill the 10,000 psi tank right behind the seats, and many tire sellers have equipment to harvest nitrogen gas for filling tires so they lose less pressure over time, so conceivable. What happens with a battery fire, accident? Seems like you’d need to clear a huge area around the vehicle and wait for the massive explosion (thruster tank safety release without moving the vehicle?). Tesla has announced a new solid state battery with solid electrolyte, faster charging, more energy and supposedly much improved safety, but Elon is known for not fully delivering on the hype, and they could be potentially be far more explosive given the greater energy storage and delivery. Could the car become a massive roman candle or a flying fireball? And a computer bug in thruster management could crush you to death easily, not to mention adequately seeing terrain around you. If it comes to production, how many rich guys are going to off themselves? Is this an AI gambit?
