I have a post with more insight on what happened with FedEx. And the main reason I had left AT&T through a voluntary layoff was they were using an Indian development firm, Mahindra LTD, to develop new systems, and the foreign programmer’s product was trash. I was spending so much of my day on trouble tickets, and not getting very good support, which had me ready to quit when the voluntary layoff was announced. And fortunately it was through HR where local management couldn’t intervene. Megacorps are the worst employers in many ways, and it always made me wonder if it was purposeful to drive workers into despair, addiction, burn out, mental illness…as they just don’t make good logical decisions for the business, customers, employees…
