It’s Time to Take Down your Smart Cameras

There is a wealth of information in this video about why you don’t want to have these devices on your property or network, with having to turn over footage to insurance companies who will look for reasons to deny your claim being an eye opener. Capturing a neighbor’s property and then being civilly liable for not archiving the footage when notified by their insurance company’s investigator is another one. If you need this type of system, roll your own, and don’t keep footage past 24-48 hours, only keeping relevant theft, crime footage as needed. I’d probably also setup a script to erase unused disk space periodically so there would be nothing to recover if your equipment was seized, as deleted files are still present on the disk, SSD until overwritten (this will contribute to wearing out your SSD earlier, but worth it in my estimation). Also, the poor security of Ring devices that assist someone breaking into your WiFi quickly is a purposeful feature instead of a bug. Consequently, if I were Benn Jordan, I’d have an attorney on retainer, get a concealed carry permit, and be very careful about my surroundings and putting myself in dangerous situations, as he’s building up a list of tech megacorps trying to bring us the digital Panopticon who might want to see him suicided for impacting their efforts. Think that’s out there, look at how easily they suicided Boeing whistleblowers among many others…

Flock, who make ALPR cameras going up all over the nation, are just bad actors. And shame to all the government entities doing deals with this company to surveil their citizens in violation of the 4th amendment. They can’t even do due diligence on the security of their devices built on old operating systems… And this guy below referred to the person behind deflock.org as being terroristic and seeding chaos… No, he just made crowd sourced site showing where all these rights infringing cameras are located, and kudos to him for not caving to legal threats and taking it down.

We can’t even drive around our small town of Cheyenne running errands without being surveilled like dogs. Our city council and city government has become trash of late, serving the big tech megacorps over citizens as they do deals for data centers and corporate interests…
