This is great news, and Motorola, still owned by Lenovo I believe, is strong enough to resist the pressure to cooperate with western governments. I’m still using my 2024 Motorola Stylus phone I picked up from my carrier for $19, though Boost is now trying to become a premium carrier and get people on more expensive plans to get good phone upgrade prices (I prepay $45 every three months for my service which is super cheap). And I haven’t wanted to drop that much money on a Google Pixel phone to run Graphene OS, and what limited things I do with my phone doesn’t require an expensive flagship.

A new leak has seemingly confirmed what we have been expecting for months. GrapheneOS is partnering with Motorola for its first non-Pixel hardware expansion.
A now-deleted post on r/GrapheneOS shared what appears to be an internal Motorola presentation slide highlighting GrapheneOS under the company’s security offerings. Although moderators quickly removed the post, screenshots continue to circulate, adding significant weight to long-running speculation about a collaboration between the privacy-focused Android OS and the Lenovo-owned smartphone brand.
Motorola slide lists GrapheneOS under security features
The leaked slide outlines “Solutions & Services for End-to-End Device Lifecycle Management,” with GrapheneOS explicitly listed in the security section. The placement strongly suggests official integration or support, rather than a third-party afterthought.
For months, GrapheneOS has publicly denied rumors of a Motorola partnership, even as it teased plans to expand beyond its long-standing Pixel exclusivity. However, the hints have been increasingly difficult to ignore.
Back in October 2025, we reported that GrapheneOS was preparing to end its Pixel-only strategy and partner with a new OEM. Subsequent statements from the project early this year indicated that an announcement was expected in the next couple of months, narrowing the timeline to early 2026.
Motorola consistently stood out as the most plausible candidate. From subtle social media interactions to technical alignment and supply chain feasibility, the signs were there. In late January, we detailed why Motorola appeared to be the frontrunner for GrapheneOS’ first non-Pixel collaboration.
MWC 2026 announcement likely, but devices may not ship until 2027
Motorola is expected to formally announce the partnership next month. With MWC 2026 around the corner, the timing would make strategic sense. Major OEM partnerships and enterprise-focused security announcements are common at the Barcelona event.
That said, an announcement does not necessarily mean immediate availability. While the collaboration would be unveiled in 2026, the actual device running GrapheneOS on Motorola hardware may not arrive until 2027. This aligns with previous indications that development timelines were longer than initially anticipated.
If accurate, that delay would also explain GrapheneOS’ careful messaging and reluctance to confirm details prematurely.
A significant shift for GrapheneOS
GrapheneOS has historically maintained tight integration with Google Pixel hardware, citing security features like Titan M chips, verified boot implementation, and firmware transparency as critical requirements. Expanding to non-Pixel hardware represents a major strategic shift.
Motorola, meanwhile, has been investing heavily in enterprise mobility, device lifecycle management, and security solutions. Integrating GrapheneOS into that portfolio would give the company a strong privacy-focused differentiator in both consumer and enterprise segments.
For now, neither Motorola nor GrapheneOS has officially acknowledged the leak. But with an internal presentation slide surfacing and prior reporting already pointing in this direction, the partnership appears increasingly inevitable.
If an announcement does arrive at MWC 2026, it would mark the beginning of a new chapter for GrapheneOS beyond the Pixel ecosystem.
