It appears impressive as you watch the video, but pay close attention to the fact that when considering wages, the equipment becomes affordable over many years as it’s a significant investment. And smaller businesses won’t be able to afford this type of automation. And these megacorps leave a lot to be desired, as you have to remember that they have a lot of third party sellers on their online platforms (Amazon is mostly third party sellers). Taking Amazon for instance, we don’t really purchase from them that often having long ended Prime membership, and I find them to be going the way of Ebay in their prices and what they carry not being as good as it once was. Usually, what I buy there is from the manufacturer’s store within Amazon, and it comes down to Amazon increasing their fees on sellers. So for some products we’ve taken to buying them direct from smaller sellers or the manufacturer, bypassing Amazon entirely as the free shipping isn’t really as valuable as it once was, as it’s really baked into the product’s price. So as the large megacorps continue to raise fees on sellers to maintain their profitability, I suspect we’ll see a shift back to sellers running their own warehousing and shipping, eventually refocusing on their own websites where they’re not being squeezed so aggressively.
