Is this just playing politics, a tax grab, or a trap. When you give up your US citizenship you have to treat all of your wealth as being sold and pay capital gains, which could be a massive tax event if you built up any kind of wealth. And there are a lot of people that are arranging citizenship in other countries as a hedge against things getting out of control in the US, with many relocating to these countries where it’s cheaper to live with better quality food. And holding onto American citizenship comes with a penalty of having to pay US taxes on all earnings even if you work and live outside the country, so there is already an incentive to give up citizenship if they’ve acquired another and left the country. Consequently, Moreno owned several car dealerships, which are the scummiest businesses, working over customers to pay their inventory financing and high overhead, but then transitioning to a blockchain company. This guy might be a spook, and you don’t get those senator spots unless you’re connected and follow orders.
Moreno’s legislation would make any American who currently has dual citizenship with another country choose between the two nations, and any American who seeks dual citizenship to give up their U.S. citizenship.

Ohio GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno introduced a bill Monday that seeks to end dual citizenship and require new American citizens to submit “exclusive allegiance” to the United States.
Moreno’s legislation would make any American who currently has dual citizenship with another country choose between the two nations, and any American who seeks dual citizenship to give up their U.S. citizenship.
“One of the greatest honors of my life was when I became an American citizen at 18, the first opportunity I could do so,” Moreno, who was born in Colombia but has since given up his citizenship, told Fox News. “Being an American citizen is an honor and a privilege — and if you want to be an American — it’s all or nothing. It’s time to end dual citizenship for good.”
Moreno’s bill, the “Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025,” is aimed at bolstering American interests by eliminating potential conflicts of interest and “divided loyalties.”
If passed, the bill would give Americans with dual citizenship one year to write to the Secretary of State or Department of Homeland Security on whether they intend to give up their American citizenship, or denounce their foreign citizenship. If they do not make the deadline, it will be recorded that they relinquished their U.S. citizenship.
“It was an honor to pledge an Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America and ONLY to the United States of America,” Moreno posted on X. “America First and America Only. It’s time to end dual citizenship for good.”
