This is a major problem in MMA, and it’s really two things, guys cheating on purpose or guys who are afraid of being in the fire and sticking out their fingers desperate to get out of range. A lot of UFC fighters never commit this foul, so it’s not necessary and needs to be addressed by athletic commissions. And I’m of the opinion that it needs to be an immediate point deduction with a part of the offender’s purse going to the victim. And you’re allowed to use your palm or a fist to push off the head, so there’s no excuse for the fingers being outstretched. And I think this was the third main even I’ve seen ended by an eye poke, which is just a let down for fans looking forward to a big main event. And this one was shaping up to be pretty interesting going down the stretch.
