Bull Bitcoin has a very interesting Bitcoin wallet that allows you to use Bitcoin, Liquid and Lightning, with the handy thing being that you can use your own Bitcoin and Liquid nodes. You don’t really need to run a Liquid node as it will use theirs with Blockstream as a backup. Liquid has some advantages over Lightning as you don’t need to setup channels or worry about channel balances for sending or receiving payments, but your Liquid is custodial using multisig wallets, with 11 of 15 Liquid servers run by major corporations in the space needing to collude to steal your Liquid Bitcoin, which is highly unlikely. There are also privacy features built into the protocol which are very good, as amounts and tokens aren’t identified, with Liquid also supporting some stablecoin tokens. But since funds are held in Liquid, Lightning payments are made through a swap in the background, but work seamlessly. Also, Bull Bitcoin runs their own exchange with fiat bill paying, which you can interface with through the wallet. Another notable feature is hardware wallet support with the ability to automatically send balances over a certain threshold to your hardware wallet. And always a good place to start is to look at who runs the operation along with the details of their security, with their presentation below.
I found the wallet to work well, and I liked that you could run your own Liquid node if you wanted to instead of trusting them or Blockstream. Though, I’m not that interested in Liquid as that’s a project of the Bitcoin traitor Adam Back. I’d probably rather run Aqua if I wanted to use Liquid, and hopefully they’ll include the ability to use your own Bitcoin node and Liquid node soon. For a simple Lightning Bitcoin wallet, I’d use Phoenix Wallet which has great Lightning connectivity for payments, adding incoming liquidity, and you can use your own Bitcoin node for on-chain transactions. ACINQ who is behind Phoenix Wallet sets up the channels, and you can pay a minimal fee to add capacity for incoming payments if necessary. But since I run my own Bitcoin nodes with Lightning, I just use the Ride The Lightning web interface or Zeus Bitcoin and Lightning Wallet to manage my own Lightning channels and make payments using Lightning on my own LND node.
Now regarding the company and their CEO, I liked the presentation, but I just can’t take profane people seriously. There is a significant lack of professionalism to use profanity in a company presentation to customers, even though some think its hip these days, doing it on purpose. And it was the same thing with the people behind Coinkite and their Coldcard Q hardware wallet. Also, being in Canada, I worry about government regulations and what they might be forced to do against their customers, as the Canadian government is under the crown and their Charter of Rights can be set aside for the interests of the crown. And many of us saw what happened to the Freedom Convoy with bank accounts locked, custodial crypto frozen… But if these don’t concern you, Bull Bitcoin Wallet is good. And all the wallets discussed are opensource.
