An open conversation regarding Trezor’s new secure element chip and opensource in general, with Tropic Square being a related company. The big breakthrough with this chip is it’s not concealed behind an NDA, Non-Disclosure Agreement, where you’re not allowed to say anything about the device, e.g. disclosing you found a vulnerability to warn other people using the chip. In a previous video they talked about breaking into a secure element device in testing that the manufacturer wouldn’t even fix, and they couldn’t disclose what they found, with competitors who still use the vulnerable chip. And a big advantage with open source, is people can check the code and device to verify its security, or find vulnerabilities to be addressed.
