AI Company Debuts ‘Drive-Thru’ Inspection System for Commercial Trucks

These systems aren’t doing so well with rental cars given people being hit with erroneous fees. One was noted as caused by water on the vehicle after a wash, and it seems the rental companies know they’re juicing customers by making it difficult to remedy with an actual employee. The other play might be to get you to buy insurance so you don’t have to worry about it. I’d imagine the big megacorp trucking companies that will hire just about anyone off the street will invest in this technology as their drivers will lack the proficiency to find flaws in their daily inspections.

A company specializing in AI-powered vehicle inspection technology rolled out a new “drive-thru” scanner system specifically for commercial fleets.

On September 17, UVeye, a vehicle inspection technology company based in the U.S. and Israel, announced the expansion of its existing passenger vehicle services so that Class 6–8 trucks and buses are now supported as well, allowing fleets to give their trucks an “MRI for vehicles” with an automated 17-point inspection.

The UVeye system involves a drive-thru scanner capable of taking a 360° picture of the vehicle in order to detect mechanical flaws, damage, modifications, or foreign objects. Each scan generates a shareable digital report with annotated images to provide insights on the safety of the vehicle for fleet managers, drivers, and compliance officers.

“This latest expansion transforms the inspection process for heavy-duty vehicles, enabling fleets to improve safety, streamline compliance, and minimize costly downtime,” the company said in a news release.

Assisted by AI technology, UVeye says that the scanners can detect the following:

  • Tires — wear, mismatched sets, and compliance issues
  • Underbody — leaks, cracks, rust, or hidden structural damages
  • Exterior — scratches, dents, and other hard-to-spot flaws

“Extending UVeye into the trucking and bus market is a pivotal milestone,” said Amir Hever, CEO and Co-Founder of UVeye. “We’ve already scanned millions of vehicles for OEMs and dealerships, and now we’re bringing that same proven accuracy and transparency to fleets. It’s all about helping operators maximize uptime, reduce costs, and deliver a better customer experience.”

UVeye technology is currently in use at many U.S. auto dealerships for passenger vehicle inspections.
