I was going to show a couple pictures and quotes from the presidents on Mount Rushmore from our trip there yesterday, but I’m blown away by some quotes from George Washington. How far have we fallen as a nation from the principles of our liberator and first president.
George Washington Quotes:
“It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.”
“It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.”
“No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men, more than the people of the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by some token of Providential agency.”
“By the all-powerful dispensations of Providence I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me!”
“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.”
“The administration of justice is the firmest pillar of government.”
“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”
“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead top political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars?”
“The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.”
A parting shot below from the Needles Highway with the formations that sparked the interest to do human forms in the rocks to honor great people of our nation. These were of course rejected by the sculptor and Mount Rushmore was selected as a superior location and formation. Consequently, Mount Rushmore was not completed as originally envisioned as the rock was found to be too soft, but the finished project today is a remarkable feat of human craftsmanship and engineering, and gives honor to remarkable men that played vital roles in critical times of our nation’s creation, expansion, and development. But unfortunately in the time of billionaires the corruption of financial gain and the setting aside of providence, our nation has placed itself before God ripe for judgement, and what was a beautiful story is now a groaning tragedy.
