For some time I wanted to ditch my old membrane keyboard for a mechanical keyboard, but they were always too expensive. Well, over the last few years there has been a lot of competition in the mechanical keyboard market, and you can get a lot of mechanical keyboards at a very competitive price now. And along with mechanical switches that are hot swappable, there are many gaming varieties with RGB lighting per key as well. So seeing that I could get a Tecware Phantom 104 RGB keyboard with Outemu blue switches for $39, I placed the order for my spiritual birthday present. And I couldn’t be happier with the keyboard (review). Consequently, the keyboard even comes with 4 backup switches, key remover tool that snaps into the back, and a switch puller tool. The blue switches are a bit clicky which I like, but you can get other switch varieties described in the image below.

As a perk, you get several lighting modes configurable from the keyboard, and you can vary the lighting level. The only negative, is there aren’t dedicated media keys, but you do have media keys using the FN key. And with the software you can easily customize the key colors per key or pick from built in modes. And as the review says, this keyboard is giving you great value for the price punching well above its weight class. So it’s a great time to ditch that membrane keyboard that comes with most systems today and get a mechanical switch keyboard for your computer with great deals and so many options to choose from.

Though for the 87 key version, applies to the 104 key version as well.
