BunsenLabs Linux Beryllium

BunsenLabs Beryllium is based on Debian Bullseye and a continuation of CrunchBang Linux. It uses the OpenBox Window Manager with a very nice dark theme by default, and this makes it a great combination for a fast and low resource intensive installation. The Conky System monitor has the shortcut keys listed for common functions and tasks or you can access the menu with a right click on the desktop, or the super key. The only issue I had was with the Tor Browser installation which had an error forcing me to load it manually from the command line, but this is a Debian package issue and not the fault of BunsenLabs Linux. And since it’s based on Debian it works well with VMware Player and 3D acceleration. Consequently, I’m finding it enjoyable enough to use that I’ll keep it in the daily Linux rotation with Ubuntu KDE Plasma, Voyager Gnome, MX XFCE, Endeavour XFCE, and Manjaro XFCE. So if you want a throwback OpenBox Linux experience, fire up BunsenLabs Linux in a VM and give it a test drive as its a great little distro.

Features

The distribution consists of configuration and resource packages installed on top of Debian. There are no changes to the way the Debian base system is administrated.

  • Pre-configured Openbox window manager with tint2 panel, conky system monitor and jgmenu, a feature-rich desktop menu.
  • Assortment of harmonising GTK2/3 themes, wallpapers and conky configurations
  • Various configuration and application utilities to maintain this system
  • Additional desktop-, multimedia- and hardware-related packages come pre-installed to offer a better “out-of-the-box” experience.

There is no limit to customization: You can review desktop configurations in our forums’ Artwork & Screenshots section, and we also host several active threads on conky configuration. As an example, here’s an user-contributed walkthrough video showing what kind and style of desktop experience you may end up with.
