New DVSwitch Mobile Beta That Allows You to Use Your DVSwitch Mobile as an Allstarlink Node

If you’re not aware of DVSwitch Mobile, it’s an Android app that you can use to connect to your Allstarlink node or your DVSwitch Server for digital modes. But to use the app you had to have an existing Allstarlink node or DVSwitch server running on a Raspberry Pi or computer/server. But the new DVSwitch Mobile Android App was released with a new feature to allow your DVSwitch Mobile app to act as a node or as a Web Transceiver to connect to Allstarlink nodes. This is actually handy as you don’t have to have an already existing Allstarlink node to connect to in order to get on the Allstarlink network. This does require you to register with allstarlink.org and request a node number and get your password (note you only need one node number and you can extend it to 10 node numbers if needed, e.g. convert 49919 to 499190,1,2,…).

https://www.allstarlink.org/portal/register.php

Below you can see I’m connected to the Boredom Breaker Net, Allstarlink node 49562, using node number 49919 in the Allstarlink network.

To make the app feel more like radio I use the iTalkie Bluetooth speaker mic which has it’s own Android app for PTT functionality, primarily to work with Zello where it has excellent receive and transmit audio, but because of the codecs it’s limited on Allstarlink.

So if you haven’t played with Allstarlink because you don’t have a node, time to sign up and get a node number and use DVSwitch Mobile to connect to Allstarlink nodes and see what you’ve been missing. Or if you are on Allstarlink, here’s another way to get on the network when away from home or without a radio or portable node.

There is also Web Transceiver functionality built in as covered by the main dev’s documentation I’ll link below.

Thanks to Steve, N4IRS, and Michael, N4IRR, for their work on the new version of DVSwitch Mobile as well as DVSwitch Server (and whoever else has contributed).
