I Wouldn’t Use Exolix Exchange

I play with privacy respecting exchanges to convert between Bitcoin and privacy coins to experiment with or profit when there is a pump underway. And I was trying to use Exolix to just exchange some Bitcoin for one Zcash, about $393, and the transaction wouldn’t complete. I contacted Exolix and they said it was due to AML, so they couldn’t process the transaction and returned my Bitcoin. In this review below it looks like they are integrated with Binance and KuCoin, so my Bitcoin must have been flagged by them because it had been through a coinjoin transaction. The same transaction went through without a problem with Fixed Float, though Fixed Float doesn’t support the US market, but with my VPN making me appear to be in Argentina, not a problem. This is hardly an amount that should trigger KYC/AML holds. Consequently, this is a taste of where things are heading with exchanges flagging coins just because they were in a coinjoin, even though almost all participants, like me, do it for privacy. Because governments don’t want you to have any financial privacy, hence outlawing exchanges to even handle some privacy coins they can’t track, or coins run through coinjoins to break tracking. They’ll probably even make it difficult to get them returned, considering it legitimate asset forfeiture like law enforcement stealing cash from travelers…

Key Takeaways

  • Exolix is a non-custodial instant swap service — no account storage, funds only transit through the platform during the swap. You retain full custody of your wallet before and after.
  • 1,200+ cryptocurrencies including privacy coins (XMR, ZEC), Layer-2 assets, and niche altcoins. No upper swap limit — suitable for larger amounts if compliance requirements are met.
  • ⚠️ Large transactions may trigger unexpected KYC/AML fund holds — despite “no registration” branding, partner compliance systems can freeze funds and demand proof of identity and fund source. Some users report funds held for extended periods.
  • Fees are embedded in the quoted exchange rate — approximately 1.93% markup/markdown vs market price based on independent testing. No separate platform fee displayed.
  • Integrates with Beam, OrangeFren, Ravencoin, Trocador, and Zano — can be accessed via these aggregator services for additional price comparison.

⚡ Bottom Line: Exolix works well for small-to-medium privacy-focused swaps with no registration. The ~1.93% rate markup and potential KYC fund-freeze on large transactions are the main concerns. For small amounts and niche tokens, Exolix is reliable. For larger swaps, use ChangeNOW or SimpleSwap which have more transparent compliance policies.

⚠️ Risk Disclaimer: Large swaps may trigger compliance holds. Always verify the final rate before sending funds. Fees are embedded in the quoted rate. This is not financial advice.
