This is even starting to happen here in Cheyenne, with the city council annexing more and more land, harassing a local farmstand with prime property near a lot of hotels and a large apartment complex… In the county just outside the city there is someone trying to build a complex to host 5,600 construction workers for the many data center projects… There are claims that this won’t make residents pay more for electricity, but these captured politicians will probably aid in the electricity expenses for the data centers being passed on to residents. And we’re a high desert region, and even these closed source cooling systems using water have collection pools which will lead to evaporation, and the water will be pulled from aquifers though they claim they go down further to not affect local resident’s wells. But these people are liars including local politicians, developers and megacorps behind them, so who believes any of their claims. And with so few long term jobs actually involved, do they even benefit the communities? Especially if they give them tax avoidance deals for long periods…
