If Memory Safety is The Goal, Rust is Not The Solution

Something is up with how Rust is being pushed on opensource with some of the megacorps pushing it as well. Whenever something is hyped like Rust was, when not fully matching up to the hype, you have to wonder why? And Ubuntu rewriting a bunch of GNU packages in Rust that don’t even fully function doesn’t make any sense. So is it about replacing the GPL license? Or to have exploitable code to break into systems?

And this bit from the people rewriting the coreutils kind of tells the tale that something else is up with this whole endeavor. Is it just the license, or deeper as part of the age verification move in Linux to drive control of free software operating systems to be as locked down as Windows, macOS, iOS and Android? Is this part of the move towards digital ID and removing free software as the escape?
