Is Motorcycle Lane Splitting the Fastest Way Across a City?

Of course I think this is only legal in a few states. And not really highlighted is you can lane split to the front of red lights which helps get across surface streets much faster, though you need to tear off so you’re not holding the cars up to be courteous (jerks will try to accelerate extra hard because they don’t like you cutting by). And of interest, some people in cars stuck in traffic jams get upset with you lane splitting even though it’s no impact to them, as I had a BMW on the 101 aggressively cut me off once, so I set him up to cut me off again, cut across to the other side and went by waving goodbye to him (some motorcyclists take side mirrors for such behavior). Also, people don’t look for motorcycles so well, so be cautious if there is space for a lane change. Suffices to say, in California with many traffic jams, lane splitting is extremely helpful and can significantly cut down travel time. I’d only do it if traffic was down to 20 mph or less.
