A small victory, but the whole issue of the government stealing from citizens without due process is still ongoing (house seizures over taxes have some states keeping the whole amount at auction and not returning principal). You see it in some police videos where they ask people they pull over if they’re carrying large amounts of cash, which is entirely none of their business. If you’re catching someone transporting something illegal like drugs or stolen merchandise with a reasonable suspicion of illegal activity with proceeds, then perhaps grab the cash and investigate. But when no crime is involved this is just stealing. And for a funny one, a sheriff in California was confiscating money from a legal business by stopping and searching an armored car. Also, many will offer to return half of the money if you promise not to sue them, which might be a wash with legal fees and you won’t have to wait months for it. Suffices to say, these law enforcement operations doing this aren’t ethical or honorable and you can only imagine what else they’re doing.
