by Jim H\u1d0fft<\/p>\n\n\n\n As winter approaches, so does the latest round of fear-mongering from public health officials: the \u201cquad-demic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n This year, it\u2019s not just COVID, the flu, and RSV making headlines; norovirus, the infamous \u201cwinter vomiting disease,\u201d has been added to the list of threats making the rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But is the quad-demic hysteria justifiable, or is it another attempt to push vaccinations while glossing over their questionable effectiveness and potential risks?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Public health officials, like Dr. Robert Hopkins Jr. from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, are urging Americans to roll up their sleeves for not one but multiple shots\u2014including the controversial COVID vaccine that has seen lackluster uptake since its introduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAll of the viruses are here, it\u2019s just they\u2019re affecting different areas a little bit differently,\u201d Dr. Robert Hopkins Jr., medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases told Fortune<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to panic people, but I would say if you haven\u2019t been vaccinated and you\u2019re eligible for vaccination\u2014that means everybody 6 months of age and older\u2014get that COVID shot, get that flu shot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n While RSV vaccines are now available for certain age groups, the push for widespread vaccination feels more like a boon for Big Pharma than a genuine public health necessity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pfizer, Moderna, and others have enjoyed record-breaking profits during the pandemic, and this year\u2019s \u201cquad-demic\u201d narrative conveniently keeps the money flowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While respiratory viruses dominate the \u201cquad-demic\u201d narrative, norovirus\u2014a gastrointestinal illness often referred to as \u201cwinter vomiting disease\u201d\u2014is now being highlighted. Conveniently, there\u2019s no vaccine for this particular illness, but public health officials are using it to rehash tired advice about hand hygiene and avoiding crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More from Fortune<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. William Schaffner<\/a>, a professor in the division of infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center<\/a>, refers to this time of year respiratory virus vaccination<\/em> season. Getting up to date on your immunizations is the best holiday present you can give yourself and your loved ones, he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBenjamin Franklin had it right: \u2018An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,\u2019\u201d Schaffner tells Fortune<\/em>. \u201cLet\u2019s do what we can to prevent serious illness this year. We\u2019re under<\/em>-vaccinating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But how can we protect against norovirus, also known as \u201cwinter vomiting disease,\u201d for which there\u2019s no vaccine? Here\u2019s where hand hygiene reigns supreme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMake ample use of soap and water,\u201d Schaffner says, noting that alcohol-based hand sanitizer alone doesn\u2019t defeat norovirus. \u201cIt\u2019s highly contagious and you can probably pick it up on the environment, on your fingers, and then when you touch your nose and mouth, that\u2019s how the transmission occurs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The same public health measures you likely adopted during the early days of COVID can help stave off illness, too, Hopkins stresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s important to cover your coughs, ideally with your sleeve or with a handkerchief, not your hands,\u201d Hopkins says. \u201cStay away from people who are sick, stay home when you\u2019re ill<\/a>, contact your health care professional about whether you need to get tested<\/a> and about symptomatic measures<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Vaccines must not be selling, so time to psyop the population.
