But these types of terrorist attacks are also on the table with Ukraine. One of the worst was a social media reporter who covered the war and was giving a talk when he was killed by a bomb placed next to him on stage. Of course there isn&#8217;t a lot of coverage of these terrorist attacks in the west. Gen. Igor Kirillov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirillov and his assistant were killed in the blast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The slaying comes just a day after Kirillov was charged criminally by Ukraine\u2019s Security Services (SBU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, the SBU charged Kirillov in absentia for alleged war crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SBU said <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/SBUkr\/13602\">on Telegram<\/a> that Kirillov was \u201cresponsible for the mass use of banned chemical weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russia\u2019s Investigative Committee said the explosive device was placed in a scooter near a residential apartment block on Ryazansky Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The device was triggered remotely, according to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Russian state news agency Tass, the bomb had the power of roughly 300 grams of TNT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pictures from the scene showed the entrance to a building was badly damaged, with scorch marks on the walls and a number of windows blown out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two body bags could also be seen on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russia\u2019s Investigative Committee said it had \u201copened a criminal case into the murder of two servicemen\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvestigators, forensic experts, and operational services are working at the scene,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvestigative actions and operational search activities are being carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents living near the blast told the AFP news agency they initially thought the loud noise they heard had come from a construction site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student Mikhail Mashkov, who lives in the building next door, said he was woken up by a \u201cvery loud explosion noise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mashkov said he initially thought \u201csomething fell at the construction site\u201d when he heard the sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Olga Bogomolova said she thought a container had fallen at the construction site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bogomolova said she then realized \u201cit was a very strong explosion\u201d when she saw \u201cbroken windows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reuters reported that the SBU claimed responsibility for the hit on Kirillov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BBC also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cm2ek388yxzo\">reported<\/a> that a source in Ukraine\u2019s SBU claimed Kirillov was \u201ca legitimate target.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SBU source reportedly stated that Kirillov was killed because he had he had carried out war crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ukrainian government has not yet commented on the general\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvestigators, forensic experts, and operational services are working at the scene,\u201d RIC spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvestigative and search activities are being carried out to establish all the circumstances around this crime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Petrenko also said Russia is treating the explosion as a terrorist attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirillov was charged by the SBU on Monday with using&nbsp;banned chemical weapons&nbsp;on the battlefield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several countries had also placed him under sanctions for his role in the war against Ukraine, The AP reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SBU said it has recorded more than 4,800 uses of chemical weapons under the general\u2019s leadership during Russia\u2019s attack on Ukraine, which began in February 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moscow denies the allegations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There have been constant reports of the Ukrainian soldiers killing civilians in the breakaway regions, and one of the reasons Russia finally officially invaded Ukraine in order to protect Russian speakers.
