We helped set the record that was just broken<\/a>, and the wings were good. The contest rate was 25 wings for $20, but I didn’t appreciate that they didn’t take cash even though just for the event. And there was a long line to wait through. But their normal prices for food truck food are too high for us as it’s over $30 for 25 wings or for 20 wings with tots. So I doubt we’d help next time. Consequently, what is it with food trucks and high prices? We’re watching the Great Food Truck Race, and they’ve been charging crazy prices for what they give you and were admonished for it in one episode where they went too big. And they’re giving you a lot of processed GMO food and oils. But then, that’s a lot of restaurants as well, and why eating out is such a poor and unhealthy experience these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Village Casino in New York sold nearly 56,000 chicken wings in 24 hours over the weekend to reclaim the world record from Wyoming\u2019s Weitzels Wings. Owner Trent Weitzel said he wants to take it back decisively next year by selling 75,000.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

This might be the most delicious game of chicken ever played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A year after Wyoming-based Weitzels Wings sold more than 48,000 chicken wings<\/u><\/a> in 24 hours to shatter the world record, the previous record-holder has reclaimed its perch as top chicken wing seller in the coop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Village Casino in Bemus Point, New York, held the record for 41 years between 1982 and 2023, when Weitzels Wings (aka Double Dubs) knocked it out of the nest, topping the previous record of about 42,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanting to leave no doubt, Village Casino sold more than 55,700 wings from 5 p.m. Saturday through 5 p.m. Sunday, reclaiming the record and bragging rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was something the folks there started thinking about as soon as Double Dubs took the record during Cheyenne Frontier Days last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had the record from 1982, then again in 2018 (breaking their own record), and I know they broke it last year, so this was an event we worked all summer to get off the ground,\u201d Village Casino owner Andrew Carlson told Cowboy State Daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also said that while he and his crew enjoy the rivalry and competitive juices fighting for the record sparked, it\u2019s all good-natured and done with no harsh feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur event was all community based and we got everyone involved, and it was a great community event,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Village Casino has been known for chicken wings for the last 30 years. It\u2019s held the Guinness Book of World Records in 1982, then broke it again in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut I would never dare to say that\u2019s our record, it\u2019s anyone\u2019s to fight for. It\u2019s just a lot of fun,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Craves Competition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Double Dubs owner Trent Weitzel agreed that competition makes everyone involved better, and that he\u2019s a pretty competitive guy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why while congratulating Village Casino on the new record, Weitzel also has vowed to reclaim it \u2014 and decisively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRecords are made to be broken. That\u2019s why records are there and people go after them,\u201d he said, adding he\u2019s happy for Village Casino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly 56,000 chicken wings \u201cis pretty awesome,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But next year during Cheyenne Frontier Days, Weitzel said Double Dubs plans to reclaim the 24-hour sales record in a way that also sends a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to go after 75,000,\u201d he said. \u201cWe want to do it so bad they won\u2019t want to try to (get the record) back again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m trying to do something, I want to do everything to win to where somebody wouldn\u2019t want to go after it again. I think up in the 70,000s would be a good number to reach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not Their First Rodeo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Weitzel also said Double Dubs has the advantage of experience this next time around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe first time we went into it not really knowing how to do it,\u201d he said, adding there are significant differences between the Village Casino and his food truck model. \u201cWe\u2019re 100% off the grid and don\u2019t have a brick and mortar to go back to. We had to prepare for our generators, the trucks and the water, and a refrigerated truck, then all the wings and sauces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis next time I know what I\u2019m getting myself into, and I can make it be bigger and better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No matter whether Double Dubs reclaims the record, it also remains the two-time defending Festival Favorite winner at the Buffalo Wing Festival<\/a>, the Super Bowl of the chicken wing industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
