There were a lot of homeless tents around, and also just down Broadway from this Target were the projects which I&#8217;m sure have gotten worse. Further down the street is a park and marina on the Sacramento River, and I remember on a long bicycle ride that they had RV trailers there for the homeless (42 mile round trip ride from my suburb to downtown Sacramento along the American River bike trail with lots of homeless as you got closer to downtown and the food kitchens). So it would seem Sacramento is going the way of L.A., S.F., Oakland and Richmond as Gov. Newsom and fellow Demonrats run it into the ground. And some Demonrats mention Newsom&#8217;s name as a replacement for Biden. But the City Attorney\u2019s Office denied that it was aware of any litigation threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>However, city officials reportedly met with Target during a meeting following the report to come up with a \u201csafety plan\u201d to mitigate future retail theft. <\/strong>During the meeting, city officials allegedly aired their grievances against Target, which agreed to beef up its own security measures\u2014including \u201calarms, cameras, and security personnel\u201d along with the implementation of \u201clight fixtures, landscaping, wayfinding and space activation measures,\u201d according to the&nbsp;<em>Bee.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to the report, state lawmakers also took action and added an amendment to a retail theft bill this week that would outlaw these types of threats toward businesses from authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>California Republicans, who have raised concerns about the retail theft bill, blasted Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/headlineusa.com\/tag\/gavin-newsom\">Gavin Newsom<\/a>&nbsp;and his \u201cpro-criminal policies\u201d for punishing law-abiding businesses and rewarding criminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em><strong>\u201cNewsom keeps insisting that reports of theft are dropping\u2014well, now we know why. Not only are thieves let off without even a slap on the wrist, but now the victims are being threatened for even reporting crimes,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> said California Assembly GOP leader James Gallagher.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Even leftists in the state agreed that Sacramento\u2019s alleged behavior toward Target was disconcerting. Blake Randol, a criminal justice professor at California State University, Stanislaus, told the&nbsp;<em>Sacramento Bee&nbsp;<\/em>that Sacramento\u2019s alleged actions would only deter other businesses from reporting future crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>\u201cWhat\u2019s problematic is that what Target is complaining about is a legitimate crime concern,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Randol said.<em> \u201cThe city does have a responsibility to be more responsive to the public and be responsive to crime control demands from the public.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having come from the region and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 2020, this area was getting pretty sketchy before we left.
