And there are encounter documentation requirements with the police officers having to prove no misconduct, and they can be ruled against if for whatever reason body camera footage wasn&#8217;t available. Like most liberal areas, they&#8217;re purposely making policing a hostile environment leaving police to know that the government doesn&#8217;t have their backs, and that is why the above link shows cops are retiring and leaving Colorado as it&#8217;s become mini-Commiefornia. (9News)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wyoming sheriff who&nbsp;is advertising his&nbsp;open deputy jobs with a billboard in the heart of Denver is being inundated with messages from potential new hires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak, based in Cheyenne,&nbsp;said he\u2019s&nbsp;heard from about 100 \u201ccontacts\u201d or prospective hires in the past 24 hours&nbsp;since&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cowboystatedaily.com\/2024\/05\/13\/wyoming-sheriff-uses-billboard-to-attract-frustrated-denver-cops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cowboy State Daily reported on the billboard<\/a>&nbsp;in a story that was picked up across the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of those are already registered police officers in other states, rather than people just looking to enter the profession, Kozak told Cowboy State Daily at midday Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only 10% are&nbsp;cops from&nbsp;Denver, which prompted a laugh from Kozak, as his office\u2019s decision to plaster a jobs advertisement on a billboard in downtown Denver prompted the deluge of contacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the&nbsp;Cowboy State Daily story of the billboard&nbsp;going viral also prompted the deluge, Kozak said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bearing a smiling photo of four sheriff\u2019s deputies, the billboard casts Wyoming as a place where people treasure law and order. It reads: \u201cWork in Wyoming, where breaking the law is STILL ILLEGAL &amp; cops are funded!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kozak told Cowboy State Daily the billboard\u2019s funding reference is&nbsp;because of&nbsp;Denver slashing its police department by $8.4 million last month to address the sanctuary city\u2019s migrant crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mayor Bristles<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Denver Mayor Mike Johnston\u2019s office countered in a public statement sent Wednesday to Cowboy State Daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe&nbsp;city of Denver\u2019s adjustment to the Denver Police Department\u2019s budget was carefully crafted with safety leaders and Mayor Johnston to ensure there would be&nbsp;<strong>no impact to the department\u2019s public services<\/strong>,\u201d says the statement,&nbsp;which supplies the bold emphasis.&nbsp;\u201cTo say that Denver is \u2018defunding the police\u2019 is a willful mischaracterization of the budget reductions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reductions delay the purchase of new furniture and shift the funding source for one cadet class, the statement says, adding that Johnston has invested millions&nbsp;of dollars&nbsp;to add 167 new police recruits to the force this year and \u201cwill continue to invest in public safety to ensure every Denverite is safe in their city.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnston told the media last week that diverting city money into programs to help \u201cnewcomers,\u201d or migrants, is about authorizing more of them to get jobs, and also services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is going to better serve the migrants that come into the city,\u201d&nbsp; he said, adding that businesses wanting to hire them are frustrated at delays or lack in migrants\u2019 work authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis helps resolve that by getting people access to work, protecting city budgets and making sure we can get newcomers access to services.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cowboystatedaily.imgix.net\/Denver-Billboard-1-5.13.24.jpg?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;q=75&amp;auto=format%2Ccompress\" alt=\"This billboard commissioned by the Laramie County Sheriff's Office is an appeal to recruit any Denver police officers who may feel &quot;frustrated&quot; with their jobs there, LCSO Sheriff Brian Kozak said.\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This billboard commissioned by the Laramie County Sheriff&#8217;s Office is an appeal to recruit any Denver police officers who may feel &#8220;frustrated&#8221; with their jobs there, LCSO Sheriff Brian Kozak said. (Courtesy Laramie County Sheriff&#8217;s Office)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>All The Money<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Attached to statement and attributed to the Denver Police Department is a chart comparing wages at the Laramie County Sheriff\u2019s Office versus the&nbsp;DPD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, an LCSO corporal earns between $64,531 and $89,053, whereas a Denver detective\/corporal earns $116,562 annually, according to the chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Denver lieutenants earn at least $39,000 more annually, the chart says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeing a much larger department, Denver Police officers have significantly greater opportunities to promote,\u201d says the police statement. \u201cDPD is authorized for 284 detectives, 233 sergeants and 54 lieutenants. Not sure how many LCSO has.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DPD statement highlights a perceived irony:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also interesting that LCSO touts Denver&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.laramiecountywy.gov\/County-Government\/Elected-Officials\/Laramie-County-Sheriffs-Office\/Employment-ANSWER-THE-CALL#section-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>in its own recruiting materials<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;stating, \u2018Adventure awaits you in the Rocky Mountains or the bustling&nbsp;city of Denver, each within an hour&#8217;s drive.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the DPD points out its officers make more money, it doesn\u2019t account for the cost-of-living increase between Cheyenne and Denver, which is 13% higher overall in Denver, according to Forbes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Forbes cost-of-living calculator, an equivalent salary for a Cheyenne police corporal in Denver would be $102,918.
