By Robert Bridge<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n The spectacle of huge waves of Russian forces \u2013 or Ukrainian, for that matter \u2013 running across open fields in some kind of mad dash to storm enemy defenses only exists in the imagination of the mainstream media.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Lately, there has been much talk in the Western media about desperate waves of Russian troops hurling themselves recklessly at Ukrainian fortifications, while suffering huge losses. What is the truth?<\/p>\n\n\n\n human wave attack:<\/strong> is an offensive infantry tactic in which an attacker conducts an unprotected frontal assault with densely concentrated infantry formations against the enemy lines, intended to overrun and overwhelm the defenders by engaging in melee combat.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Here are some of the mainstream media armchair generals as they pontificate, hundreds of miles away, on Russia\u2019s military operation in Ukraine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n On January 24, The New York Post (\u201cMoscow\u2019s \u2018meat wave\u2019 tactic litters Ukraine battlefield with frozen corpses of Russian troops\u201d)<\/a> reported that \u201cRussia is using a \u2018meat wave\u2019 strategy that sends scores of poorly trained soldiers to die on the front lines against Ukraine to clear a path for the Kremlin\u2019s more valuable elite units \u2014 then abandons their frozen corpses on the battlefield.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The image that the Post article wishes to convey is that the Russian military is some sort of technologically inferior fighting force that must relay on brute force if it hopes to make any battlefield gains. The ultimate goal here is to portray the Russians as cold-blooded barbarians; an effort to dehumanize the Russians as, to quote one twitter user, \u201czombies, like meat without fear and self-preservation instincts\u201d that leaves its dead and wounded on the battlefield unattended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Earlier, Business Insider (\u201cRussia is bringing back its bloody \u2018human wave\u2019 tactics, throwing poorly trained troops into a massive new assault in eastern Ukraine, White House says\u201d)<\/a> quoted John Kirby, the spokesperson for the National Security Council, as saying that \u201cthe Russian military appears to be using human wave tactics, where they throw masses of poorly trained soldiers right into the battlefield without proper equipment, and\u2026 without proper training and preparation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Is Kirby projecting here? After all, it has been the Ukrainians who have been sweeping military age males off the street in broad daylight, sending them off to fight on the front lines with very little combat training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Not to be outdone, on January 24, CNN (\u201cRussia\u2019s relentless \u2018meat assaults\u2019 are wearing down outmanned and outgunned Ukrainian forces\u201d<\/a>) quoted a Ukrainian sniper with the callsign \u2018Bess\u2019 who said \u201cNobody evacuates [the Russian corpses], nobody takes them away,\u201d he said. \u201cIt feels like people don\u2019t have a specific task, they just go and die.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Is there any truth to these allegations? Are the Russians really carrying out zombie-style frontal assaults that are \u201cunprotected, exposed and concentrated\u201d in a desperate effort to overrun Ukrainian positions? How do the facts stand up to this latest batch of mainstream media hype?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aside from the lack of any video evidence, consider basic military tactics. Only in the case of superior numerical troop strength \u2013 for example, as during the Battle of Normandy (June 6 \u2013 August 30, 1944) in World War II when the Allied forces launched a successful attack on German positions in northern France with over 2 million troops \u2013 would one side commit itself to carrying out massive frontal assaults on enemy positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a recent interview with Germany\u2019s ARD broadcaster, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said the Ukrainian army currently has a force level numbering about 880,000 troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe have 880,000 troops; that\u2019s an army of almost a million,\u201d he said, when asked about the army\u2019s force strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia had deployed more than 600,000 military personnel in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe front line is over 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles) long. There are 617,000 people in the conflict zone,\u201d the Russian leader said during his first end-of-year press conference since sending his army into Ukraine in February 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, even the Western mainstream media admits that Russia enjoys a 10-to-1 advantage in the number of artillery supplies, aircraft, drones and armored assault vehicles. With such an overwhelming advantage, why would the Russians need to resort to the desperate tactic of exposing its infantry to \u201chuman wave\u201d attacks? If anything, it would be the numerically superior Ukrainian forces \u2013 now being systematically crushed by the Russians across the entire field of contact \u2013 who would be expected to throw themselves against their enemy in open fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The fact is, however, there has never been any video evidence of huge waves of Russian forces \u2013 nor Ukrainian, for that matter \u2013 running across open fields in some kind of mad dash to storm enemy defenses.
