See Jonah didn&#8217;t want them to be saved, so he tried to flee and ended up in the belly of a fish and vomited out on the beach near Ninevah. His skin was probably bleached by the digestive enzymes which just solidified his tale and probably aided in the city heeding God&#8217;s warning so swiftly. And this proclamation by the king is just remarkable, and an example of true leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Jonah 3:7\u20139<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[7] And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh, \u201cBy the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not feed or drink water, [8] but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. [9] Who knows? God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.\u201d (ESV)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>And even after everything, Jonah was still angry they were shown mercy by God. Technically, all of us fall short of the perfection required by God and depend on His mercy for salvation, so something is severely wrong with your heart if you want it withheld from someone else. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-divider ub_divider ub-divider-orientation-horizontal\" id=\"ub_divider_207bc432-6332-4219-822b-d748599d12fa\"><div class=\"ub_divider_wrapper\" style=\"position: relative; margin-bottom: 2px; width: 100%; height: 2px; \" data-divider-alignment=\"center\"><div class=\"ub_divider_line\" style=\"border-top: 2px solid #ccc; margin-top: 2px; \"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Jonah 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jonah Goes to Nineveh<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[1] Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, [2] \u201cArise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.\u201d [3] So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days\u2019 journey in breadth. [4] Jonah began to go into the city, going a day\u2019s journey. And he called out, \u201cYet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!\u201d [5] And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The People of Nineveh Repent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[6] The word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. [7] And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh, \u201cBy the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not feed or drink water, [8] but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. [9] Who knows? God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[10] When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.
