If one reads Romans 1 it is hard to not see that our nation is under judgement from God<\/a>, because the turning over to a reprobate mind is exemplified discernibly as you look around our nation. But we tend to look at what is happening in certain cities in our nation with sympathy for the residents, but then they vote in the very lawless leaders that establish their downfall and destruction. Consequently, this one verse in Amos shows that everything that happens is under the sovereignty of God, and ultimately it is God who allows it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amos 3:6<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[6] ... Does disaster come to a city,\n    unless the LORD has done it? (ESV)<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
You have to come away with the opinion that it’s not going to get any better unless those regions repent and turn from their sin (unlikely). God is sovereign, and He can protect the righteous even in these areas, but you would have to conclude the smart decision is to extract yourself before you’re caught up in that impending disaster which God is allowing. And this chapter is a warning to Israel that was eventually conquered and ceased to exist as a nation, so who can stand against what the Almighty is doing?<\/p>\n\n\n

Israel\u2019s Guilt and Punishment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
[1] Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up out of the land of Egypt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
[2] \u201cYou only have I known\n    of all the families of the earth;\ntherefore I will punish you\n    for all your iniquities.\n\n\n[3] \u201cDo two walk together,\n    unless they have agreed to meet?\n[4] Does a lion roar in the forest,\n    when he has no prey?\nDoes a young lion cry out from his den,\n    if he has taken nothing?\n[5] Does a bird fall in a snare on the earth,\n    when there is no trap for it?\nDoes a snare spring up from the ground,\n    when it has taken nothing?\n[6] Is a trumpet blown in a city,\n    and the people are not afraid?\nDoes disaster come to a city,\n    unless the LORD has done it?\n\n\n[7] \u201cFor the Lord GOD does nothing\n    without revealing his secret\n    to his servants the prophets.\n[8] The lion has roared;\n    who will not fear?\nThe Lord GOD has spoken;\n    who can but prophesy?\u201d\n\n\n[9] Proclaim to the strongholds in Ashdod\n    and to the strongholds in the land of Egypt,\nand say, \u201cAssemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria,\n    and see the great tumults within her,\n    and the oppressed in her midst.\u201d\n[10] \u201cThey do not know how to do right,\u201d declares the LORD,\n    \u201cthose who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.\u201d\n\n\n[11] Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:\n\n\u201cAn adversary shall surround the land\n    and bring down your defenses from you,\n    and your strongholds shall be plundered.\u201d\n\n\n[12] Thus says the LORD: \u201cAs the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so shall the people of Israel who dwell in Samaria be rescued, with the corner of a couch and part of a bed.\n\n[13] \u201cHear, and testify against the house of Jacob,\u201d\n    declares the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,\n[14] \u201cthat on the day I punish Israel for his transgressions,\n    I will punish the altars of Bethel,\nand the horns of the altar shall be cut off\n    and fall to the ground.\n[15] I will strike the winter house along with the summer house,\n    and the houses of ivory shall perish,\nand the great houses shall come to an end,\u201d\n                declares the LORD.
