Consequently, they remove certain items when calculating inflation to skew the numbers, and the people in charge of the economy theoretically shoot for 2% inflation per year as a way to manage debt. But this extremely damages regular people that are trying to build up capital as their savings nominally decrease when inflation is higher than interest paid. As a result, more Americans reported that they are struggling financially than they did before the COVID-19 pandemic as persistent inflation continues to take its toll,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/inflation-households-need-extra-11400-these-states-its-even-higher\/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e&amp;linkId=251671293\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to CBS News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFood costs and basic costs are up more than other costs,\u201d Gene Ludwig, chairman of the Ludwig Institute for Shared Economic Prosperity, told CBS News. \u201cPutting on a Thanksgiving dinner costs the same if you\u2019re a lower- or upper-income American, but for a lower-income American it\u2019s a bigger portion of your spending.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inflation <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/11\/14\/inflation-elevated-fed-last-meeting-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">peaked<\/a>&nbsp;at 9.1% year-over-year in June 2022, remaining elevated but decelerating to 3.2% in October. In an attempt to quell inflation, the Fed raised its federal funds rate to a range of 5.25% and 5.50%, the highest point in 22 years, after 11 rate hikes since March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The price increases related to groceries have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/11\/14\/more-expensive-thanksgiving-under-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">culminated<\/a>&nbsp;in a 26% rise in the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner since the beginning of Biden\u2019s term, making it the most expensive in history. The price of a turkey, measured through the index for uncooked poultry excluding chicken, increased by 31.2% in the time frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many economists have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/09\/22\/white-house-joe-biden-bidenomics-inflation-jobs-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pointed<\/a>&nbsp;to Biden\u2019s high-spending policies as one of the reasons for rising prices and high inflation. Biden signed the American Rescue Plan in March 2021, which added $1.9 trillion in new spending, while the Inflation Reduction Act, signed in August 2022, approved $750 billion in new spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>States like Colorado and Utah got the worst of inflation, with costs rising $14,995 and $14,551 since Biden took office, respectively, while Oklahoma and Maine only saw increases of $8,869 and $8,650, respectively, according to the JEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nonpartisan Leading Economic Index, which takes an aggregate of a number of key economic components to determine the health of the U.S. economy,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/11\/23\/key-economic-indicators-grim-picture-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">predicts<\/a>&nbsp;that the country will enter a recession soon and that real gross domestic product will only increase by 0.8% in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House did not immediately respond to a request to comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the CIA Broadcasting System reports that under Biden Americans are spending an additional $11,434 per year to maintain their standard of living, that&#8217;s interesting messaging.
