During the time of the northern kingdom of Israel with their idol worship and sacrificing of children to Molech among many other transgressions, God is warning them that their time of judgement is upon them if they don’t repent and turn back to the one true God. But speaking of such an evil time there is this remarkable word from God about the prudent keeping silent as it is an evil time. How much does that relate to the time we’re living through today. You can just feel the impending judgement on the world coming due.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nAmos 5:10\u201313<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
[10] They hate him who reproves in the gate,\n and they abhor him who speaks the truth.\n[11] Therefore because you trample on the poor\n and you exact taxes of grain from him,\nyou have built houses of hewn stone,\n but you shall not dwell in them;\nyou have planted pleasant vineyards,\n but you shall not drink their wine.\n[12] For I know how many are your transgressions\n and how great are your sins\u2014\nyou who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe,\n and turn aside the needy in the gate.\n[13] Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time,\n for it is an evil time. (ESV)<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nAnd God’s warning to turn back to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[14] Seek good, and not evil,\n that you may live;\nand so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you,\n as you have said.\n[15] Hate evil, and love good,\n and establish justice in the gate;\nit may be that the LORD, the God of hosts,\n will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. (ESV)<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nAnd we know they didn’t head the warning and were conquered, per the numbers of the chapter only ten percent would survive. But interestingly, they looked forward to the Day of the Lord thinking it would bring victory and He would be with them, but God even warned them of this false belief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nAmos 5:18\u201320<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let Justice Roll Down<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
[18] Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD!\n Why would you have the day of the LORD?\nIt is darkness, and not light,\n[19] as if a man fled from a lion,\n and a bear met him,\nor went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall,\n and a serpent bit him.\n[20] Is not the day of the LORD darkness, and not light,\n and gloom with no brightness in it? (ESV)<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nWhen the fullness of a nation’s or a person’s sins come due, the judgement of God is a terrible and frightful consequence, but God has always said turn back to Him and He would relent. God has reiterated this principle over and over in scripture, and people are going to choke on it when they come face to face with God and are judged to receive the second death.<\/p>\n\n\n
