And they miss one the main reasons for the platform, to be the ultimate spyware and data collection technology. That\u2019s despite neither company having a particularly stellar track record when it comes to safeguarding such information. Besides, both companies have <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/future-society\/jealous-meta-claims-ai-went-hacking-too\">encountered their own AI agents escaping their sandbox environments<\/a> during cybersecurity testing and going far beyond the scope of their original mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet some users are still willing to go as far as to hook up their bank accounts to their AI bots \u2014 a move that\u2019s perhaps unsurprisingly leading to public humiliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEmbarrassed to share this, but it scared the sh*t out of me,\u201d tech founder and investor Shane Mac <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShaneMac\/status\/2107486740491669879\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cLast Thursday, an AI agent posted my personal bank balances into our company Slack. As me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt broke down all my expenses in detail,\u201d he added. \u201cThen it apologized.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Screenshots of a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShaneMac\/status\/2107486746325725669\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">message exchange between him and his Grok Bot<\/a>, an \u201cAI teammate\u201d feature devised by Elon Musk\u2019s AI company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/musk-says-he-will-rename-spacexai-spacexsi-2026-10-04\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceXAI<\/a>, detail the hair-raising incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou just posted my personal checking account into our company exec channel!!!!\u201d Mac told the bot. \u201cWtf.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat\u2019s on me \u2014 checking Exec Team now and deleting it if it\u2019s still up,\u201d the bot replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHow the f*** could you get this wrong?\u201d Mac complained. \u201cThat\u2019s literally my bank balance to our whole team?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cmonthly financial audit\u201d broke down Mac\u2019s current barn-based home gym project in excruciating detail, from the installation of septic tank drains to \u201ccard paydowns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mac eventually admitted that it was effectively his fault for connecting his financial accounts to the AI agents. He <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShaneMac\/status\/2107486744249589952\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">claimed<\/a> that he hadn\u2019t realized that a separate Grok Bot he gave his bank account info to was able to confer with the bot that he was using for his work Slack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI disconnected all my personal stuff for now,\u201d he wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShaneMac\/status\/2107486751770186184\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">follow-up<\/a>. \u201cI need to figure out a better way to manage permissions and control what agents can do\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, we should take Mac\u2019s cautionary tale with a healthy dose of skepticism. For one, we were unable to independently verify his claims. And it\u2019s definitely in his interest to point out the pain points of the current crop of AI assistant tools, since he\u2019s currently building an <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/agentpicnic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI tool<\/a> that\u2019s designed to connect various AI agents while allowing users to set rules and put them \u201cin control\u201d of their bots \u2014 something that sounds suspiciously like the problem he\u2019s complaining about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His original tweet about his embarrassing run-in on the company Slack has been viewed almost 800,000 times, plenty of attention a tech investor could try to convert into leads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As such, one user accused him of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MAMware\/status\/2107608239638466681\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">engagement farming<\/a>,\u201d claiming that Mac is trying to direct users to a \u201ctool he sells that solves the problem he\u2019s claiming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investor argued in response that the post was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShaneMac\/status\/2107609102759198991?s=20\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not fake at all<\/a>,\u201d adding that \u201cwe are also working on ways to keep us safe for agents, very different.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Separately, a tech YouTuber claimed his Muse AI agent <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/metas-muse-ai-giving-users-home-addresses\">gave out his home address<\/a> to strangers on Facebook Marketplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both incidents are notable for the sheer amount of schadenfreude experienced by those who <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/ai-industry-problem-agent-running-life\">think twice about relinquishing control<\/a> over their digital lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTurns out, people love a car crash,\u201d Mac later added in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShaneMac\/status\/2107831230121070851\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">follow-up<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>More on AI agents:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/future-society\/meta-muse-surveillance-privacy-friends-family\"><em>Meta\u2019s Muse Is Spying on All Your Friends and Family<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-divider ub_divider ub-divider-orientation-horizontal\" id=\"ub_divider_a8bad88b-9948-4046-9524-f936fe1963ec\"><div class=\"ub_divider_wrapper\" style=\"position: relative; These updates are reportedly coming once an hour, with an internal instruction for Muse to maintain a \u201cpage for every person in the user\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat it seemed like to me \u2014 from all these prompts, system skills data, and things that they\u2019re feeding into Muse \u2014 is that they want to understand your relationships that you have with real people,\u201d Karan Joshi, an AI safety researcher who extracted Muse\u2019s internal prompts and shared them with <em>Wired<\/em>, told the magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words, Joshi says \u201cthey\u2019re trying to know you like a friend, which is honestly pretty creepy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That news comes after Meta\u2019s engineers flagged a <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/artificial-intelligence\/meta-muse-data-breach-bank-accounts-email-archives\">massive vulnerability<\/a> that would have allowed Muse users to bust their way into the Meta database undergirding the AI agent\u2019s functions. A fix was reportedly cobbled together right before Muse launched, in a \u201cmad dash,\u201d as one Meta employee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.404media.co\/meta-rushed-to-fix-muse-vm-escape-vulnerability-immediately-before-launch\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told <em>404 Media<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMany senior engineers believe it\u2019s inevitable we\u2019re going to have a massive data breach as a result of [Muse],\u201d a Meta insider explained to <em>404<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether the internal \u201cfriends and family\u201d files would have been included in this database isn\u2019t quite clear, but it seems obvious that Muse comes with some massive safety and privacy risks \u2014&nbsp;not just for the user, but for anybody in their life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People seem to be getting caught up in AI laziness, trying to find all the ways AI can do things for them with no idea of what it&#8217;s really doing, and no concern for what personal information they&#8217;re allowing it to have access to.
