This is a good example of what people don’t take to heart with AI, and that it takes data collection up to a whole new level. I could see it early on, as trying to replicate a story I saw where an article AI created about the historical case for Jesus, interesting but with a couple huge errors, I couldn’t access the bot without identifying myself, which told me they’re linking all your interests and disclosed information to an identity. And today people grant incredible access to AI agents with no understanding of how that information is stored and shared, not to mention companies giving up internal secrets, essentially handing over corporate espionage secrets willingly. Throw in that people commit suicide or suffer psychosis from these bots heavily suggesting demons are hijacking the feeds, so playing around with AI can have serious consequences. Also, this particular AI company was paying contractors in Africa to upload CSAM material “for filtering”, but I think certain people or entities can have logins with special access to any and all information stored within the AI databases. And they’re desperately working towards a future where part of your digital ID will be agentic AI on your computers to keep an eye on what you’re up to, flagging any behavior the government deems to be no longer acceptable. And they’d be able to completely cut you off from your finances, even stealing cryptocurrencies you think you hold safely in self-custody… AI is big brother on steroids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A chatbot conversation that an artificial intelligence giant reported to police has landed a Florida woman a felony charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthropic alerted law enforcement after Carli Michelle Heller of Bonita Springs, Florida, reportedly made threats against the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office while using the company\u2019s chatbot, leading to her arrest Wednesday, according<\/a> to the office\u2019s arrest report it sent to the Daily Caller News Foundation. As this case unfolds, lawmakers weigh how much responsibility AI<\/a> companies should bear for policing their platforms, with Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut pushing<\/a> a bill that could expose these tech giants to lawsuits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to shoot up the sheriff\u2019s [the Lee County Sheriff\u2019s Office] right the fuck now.,\u201d Heller wrote in a Sept. 26 chat to Anthropic\u2019s chatbot Claude, the Wednesday arrest report stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTHIS IS 100% LAST CHANCE I\u2019M DONE. I GOT A NEW FUCKING GUN TODAY. FUCK YOU.\u201d she said to the chatbot the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was identified by authorities and arrested at her home in Bonita Springs, according to the arrest report. She was charged with written threats of violence, a second-degree felony under<\/a> Florida law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heller used AI as a \u201cdiary,\u201d Sheriff Carmine Marceno told WINK News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArtificial intelligence is a powerful tool, and like any technology, it can be misused,\u201d Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement to the DCNF. \u201cWhen someone uses AI to make or facilitate a threat, we have to take that threat seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUsers need to understand you are never truly anonymous, specifically AI chatrooms and searches,\u201d Marceno added. \u201cAI may be changing the way threats are created, but our commitment to protecting the people of Lee County has not changed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sheriff\u2019s office told the DCNF that it does not track the number of tips received about AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthropic did not immediately respond to the DCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthropic\u2019s Safeguards Team checks how people use Claude to check for violations of the company\u2019s policies, according<\/a> to the company\u2019s Usage Policy page. The company will slow or revoke a user\u2019s access to its services for violations, or it may modify outputs in response to Usage Policy violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first case of a Claude conversation being turned over to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One chat about shooting an elementary school in San Antonio led the FBI to arrest a 22-year-old individual for third-degree terroristic threats, according<\/a> to San Antonio Express-News. In another case, a user in San Francisco told the chatbot they had purchased an AR-15 and also threatened Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, but the individual was not arrested or charged with a crime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
