The idea that a registered sex offender could run for public office in the City of Fresno is unacceptable,\u201d Soria said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/soria.asmdc.org\/press-releases\/20260303-asm-soria-plans-introduce-bill-preventing-registered-sex-offenders-running\">press release<\/a> announcing the bill. \u201cThis bill will ensure once and for all that registered sex offenders are prohibited from seeking public office in California, so voters can have confidence that those seeking to represent them meet the most basic standards of public trust.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wiener, who chairs the committee, opposed the bill and said he would support it only if amended to apply solely to lifetime Tier 3 registrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Soria refused to accept that change, the measure died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conservative commentator Eric Daugherty posted a video from the proceedings, writing that Wiener said the bill was \u201cdangerous\u201d because the crimes \u201caren\u2019t a huge deal\u201d and that \u201csome people just have flaws,\u201d adding that \u201cthis guy needs to be looked into.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udea8 WTF?!
