Cash payments for fuel can still be made inside. As a result of this pump-payment policy, anyone with a Buc-ee’s gift card is left without the option to buy fuel with their card, because the card doesn’t work at the pump, but the store will not allow anyone using anything but cash to pay for fuel inside.

The result of this policy recently went viral in a Tik Tok clip of a man who claims to have driven 30 miles to a Buc-ee’s so that he could fuel up using his Buc-ee’s gift card. When the store denied him payment, he says he was left stranded at the gas station without enough fuel to get home, or funds to purchase fuel.

@griffin.mccarty drove 30 miles to bucees to use one of their giftcards for gas just to be told i can’t use it for gas??? got $4 in my account and 10 miles in my tank and literally can’t even get back home without getting gas money from my parents…. #bucees#staugustine#boycott @aryia ♬ original sound – CodeDeb

“I got $4 in my account and 10 miles in my tank and literally can’t even get back home without getting gas money from my parents,” the video poster wrote in the caption.

Especially with fuel prices rising, this new policy is yet another reason to feel a dislike for Buc-ee’s, even if you’re not a trucker.

And it’s just another example of gift cards being trash.
