I worked for Brinks in the late 90’s, and this might point to inside information from an employee at the bank, business, or Brinks itself. Of course, if a check cashing business it is easy to figure out. During my time at Brinks there was a messenger shot in the head and killed in SoCal at a check cashing business, and I seem to remember the dummy hit him when he was returning to the truck, as you’d want to get him before dropping off the cash. And those kinds of businesses were rough because just about all the customers looked like people you needed to keep your eyes on. And in some areas of SoCal were so bad, messengers were allowed to pull and hold their weapons at their side, and even outside SoCal, we were allowed to have our hand on our weapon. Interestingly, I don’t see gun ports in the truck pictured, and it seems they might have done away with the driver being locked off from the back of the truck as there are no side doors for the cab. Our old trucks had a gun port from the cab to the cargo area even, but back then we had permission to use deadly force against robbers as we saw fit with complete backing of the company. Moreover, we were also taught that if someone got the drop on you, throw the messenger bag to them as it’s insured, which while distracted might be a nice time to draw and fire too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An armored Brinks truck was robbed on Tuesday morning in Northeast Philadelphia, with the armed robbers making off with a reported $1.8 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the latest in a year-long string of armored truck heists in the Philadelphia area. Per the Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>, three men were charged in June for stealing around $2 million from a truck in Port Richmond. In the same month, an armed man stole around $700,000 from a Brinks truck in Cheltenham Township, and two armed men held up a Loomis driver in Northeast Philadelphia, taking around $100,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three men robbed a Brinks driver in July on Frankford Avenue, taking an undisclosed amount of cash. Less than two weeks later, two armed men attempted to rob a Brinks driver in Rhawnhurst, but fled. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
