This is 3.5% more for the shipping fee that Amazon charges the reseller. It just goes to show, these platforms once they have you locked in are going to squeeze you for more of your sale. It reminds me of how PayPal and Ebay just juice everyone using their platforms. And worth pointing out, this will be paid by the shopper as they raise prices, so Amazon is effectively charging you. And it’s funny that Amazon has been so greedy with their Prime package, many people like myself stopped paying for it, and then they started with ads on their streaming platform unless you pay more… If it wasn’t for AWS making nice profits, I’d bet they’d have been even more aggressive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon.com Inc.<\/a> will start charging sellers who use its shipping services a 3.5% \u201cfuel and logistics\u201d surcharge later this month, joining the ranks of shipping companies raising prices as the war in Iran pushes oil prices higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fees take effect on April 17 for customers of the company\u2019s Fulfillment by Amazon service \u2014 which is used by many of the independent sellers who list their products on Amazon\u2019s retail sites \u2014 in the US and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Items shipped by Amazon on behalf of merchants who sell on their own sites or at other retailers will carry the surcharge beginning May 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cElevated costs in fuel and logistics have increased the cost of operating across the industry,\u201d Ashley Vanicek, an Amazon spokesperson, said in a statement on Thursday. \u201cWe have absorbed these increases so far, but similar to other major carriers, when costs remain elevated we implement temporary surcharges to partially recover these costs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 60% of products sold on Amazon come from independent merchants who pay Amazon sales commissions as well as fees for warehouse storage and delivery. The surcharge shows how Amazon can use its marketplace model to pass rising costs on to its merchant partners rather than shoppers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fee will apply to the sum Amazon charges to ship an item, not the product\u2019s sale price, Vanicek said, adding that the levies were \u201cmeaningfully lower\u201d than those imposed by other carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
