Back in the 90&#8217;s while working for Brinks Armored, I had my door kicked in at about 4am in the morning. I jumped out of bed, grabbed my gun from under the bed, came up and racked a round while holding my gun on the door. I originally kept my eyes on the door through the hallway thinking they&#8217;d enter before I was ready with the gun, but they hesitated due to my dog barking and ran off when they heard me rack a round. In my mind I had decided to not bother looking for a weapon in the dark and shooting whoever entered, which was legal in California and most states. You&#8217;re just not that mentally sharp getting woke up early in the morning. Even God says you&#8217;re clear to kill someone entering your home at night, before guns even existed. And during the time of mine, a lot of home invasions involved armed men who would pistol whip and torture homeowners, especially targeting Asian immigrants that didn&#8217;t trust banks and had cash savings.
