(DCNF<\/a>)\u2014Democratic Minnesota state Rep. Leigh Finke claimed during a Thursday hearing that pornography could be \u201ceducational\u201d for \u201cqueer\u201d children while arguing against a law requiring age verification to access adult web sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legislation HF 1434<\/a>, would require age verification for sites deemed \u201charmful to minors,\u201d with sites failing to do so being subject to civil action from the state attorney general and private citizens. Finke, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, claimed current sex education was not being provided for LGBT youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe AGs in many states are, are very clear about that they\u2019re almost jubilant about being able to use these laws to ban young people from accessing content that could be educational if they are queer,\u201d Finke claimed during the Thursday hearing. \u201cAnd you\u2019re a principal, you have LGBT students in your school, and we also know that they\u2019re not receiving sex education for queer kids. We know that. Prurient interest could be for many people the very existence of transgender kids. More and more people are saying there simply are no transgender kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Donald Trump signed<\/a> an executive order declaring the government\u2019s recognition of the \u201cbiological reality of sex\u201d and defining terms like male, female, man, woman, boy and girl within hours of taking the oath of office on Jan. 20, 2025. He later issued an order targeting child sex change procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023<\/a>, Finke authored legislation<\/a> that would remove an exception for pedophiles when it came to protections<\/a> against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, later claiming<\/a> that the backlash was from people who \u201cused the opportunity to amplify the hatred of trans people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finke received<\/a> a \u201cChildren\u2019s Health Hero\u201d award from the Children\u2019s Minnesota hospital system for authoring<\/a> HF146, the \u201ctrans refuge\u201d legislation for child sex change procedures. Democratic Gov.
