Even so, the frenzy has sparked a sharp increase in scrap silver volumes flowing to refiners, as people rush to sell silver coins, sterling dinner sets, candlesticks, and other heirlooms inherited from grandparents or Boomer parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2026-02-11\/silver-s-xag-rally-fuels-rush-to-sell-jewelry-silverware-coins\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports coin and jewelry shops have seen what they describe as a &#8220;rush of customers&#8221; seeking to dispose of collectibles, silverware, and family treasures during the historic surge in silver prices last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/Snag_7996230.png?itok=s-un7Uhe\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Everyone&#8217;s grandma is selling their chandelier, forks, and knives \u2014 anything that&#8217;s made of sterling silver to utilize the silver prices,&#8221; said Gene Furman, owner of King Gold &amp; Pawn and Empire Gold Buyers, which has locations across the New York City metro area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/HAuy8Ava4AAby6O.jpg?itok=Ez1y7wdn\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The average check I&#8217;m writing is probably in the $8,000 to $10,000 range,&#8221; Gary Tancer, owner of Coin &amp; Jewelry Gallery of Boca Raton, told the outlet. He noted consumers are &#8220;coming in droves and droves.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google Search trends show that as silver prices soared, so did online interest from people searching &#8220;sell my silver.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A truly explosive surge&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/2026-02-12_10-59-44.png?itok=3JXJ3KzA\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Related top search queries included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/inline-images\/2026-02-12_10-59-57.png?itok=DB0xqY-L\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The influx of individuals deciding to sell their silver heirlooms has triggered a surge of silver scrap entering the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heraeus Precious Metals, one of the world&#8217;s largest precious metals refiners, is now facing a backlog, said Dominik Sperzel, head of trading for the German firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;When you place the silver order today, it cannot just take a few weeks,&#8221; Sperzel said. &#8220;We&#8217;re already talking about months.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JackFarley96\/status\/2021714865652404346?s=20\">Jack Farley<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monetary-metals.com\/\">Monetary Matters<\/a> spoke with Milton Berg of MB Advisors Institutional Research about why Berg is bearish on silver at this point.
