By Jack Cowhick, Daily Caller<\/p>\n\n\n\n (DCNF<\/a>)\u2014A Michigan federal grand jury indicted an individual for her alleged involvement in a \u201cforced labor conspiracy\u201d spanning Michigan, Florida, Texas and Missouri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kathleen Klein, also known as \u201cProphetess,\u201d ran a network of call centers throughout several states and \u201cused forced labor to solicit donations\u201d for Kingdom of God Global Church (KOGGC), according to a Thursday Department of Justice<\/a> (DOJ) press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cVictims were forced to work grueling hours at the call centers without pay and pressured to hit impossible fundraising targets,\u201d the press release stated. \u201cWhen victims fell short of leaders\u2019 goals or dared to push back, the punishment was severe: public humiliation, sleep deprivation, physical violence, withholding of food and shelter, forced repentance rituals, and threats of eternal damnation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Klein, 53, allegedly controlled \u201cvirtually every aspect of their victims\u2019 lives.\u201d According to the press release, KOGGC collected \u201croughly $50 million in donations,\u201d used by church leaders to pay for \u201cpersonal real estate, vehicles, travel, and luxury goods.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva said via the press release that the case \u201creflects the gravity of forced labor schemes that strip victims of their basic human rights and subject them to physical and brutal psychological abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCombating human trafficking is a top priority for the Department of Justice. We will relentlessly pursue those who facilitate and profit from forced labor and fight to obtain justice for survivors,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan of the FBI\u2019s Detroit Field Office called the action a \u201cdirect assault on human freedom\u201d which \u201cstrips victims of their dignity, autonomy, and basic right to control their own lives,\u201d according to the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnyone who conspires to exploit and enslave others for profit will be held fully accountable under the law,\u201d Runyan said. \u201cThis case demonstrates the strength of our federal, state, and local partnerships in dismantling a multi-state forced labor operation.
