An extremely interesting graphic right after the US took control of Venezuela. Of course, far from being “fossil fuels”, oil is produced by the internal processes of the planet as Russian geologists discovered, as they find oil everywhere they look. And so much has been harvested already having never hit peak oil, so the whole dinosaur fossil fuel theory was just a psyop for higher prices and market manipulation. Consequently, oil was a resource for mankind as provided by God which should be embraced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oil remains one of the most strategically important resources in the global economy.<\/strong> It powers transportation systems, underpins industrial activity, and continues to shape geopolitics and trade flows. While renewable energy is growing, oil still plays a dominant role in meeting global energy needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This visualization, via Visual Capitalist’s Bruno Venditti,<\/a> ranks countries by the size of their proven oil reserves at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data for this graphic comes from OPEC\u2019s Annual Statistical Bulletin 2025<\/a>. Figures represent proven oil reserves as of year-end 2024 and are measured in billions of barrels. The data includes conventional crude oil as well as oil sands.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four Countries Dominate Global Oil Reserves<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Global oil reserves are highly concentrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Venezuela ranks first with an estimated 303 billion barrels of oil reserves.<\/strong> However, turning this vast resource base into economic and geopolitical power has proven difficult, as ongoing U.S. sanctions and the recent seizure of Venezuelan oil shipments<\/a> under the Trump administration continue to limit the Maduro government\u2019s ability to export crude and fully monetize its reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia<\/strong> follows the South American country with 267 billion barrels. Iran, Canada, and Iraq round out the top five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Role of OPEC and the Middle East<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many of the world\u2019s largest oil reserves are held by OPEC members, particularly in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates anchor the region\u2019s dominance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These countries benefit from low extraction costs and large, easily accessible reserves. As a result, Middle Eastern producers are expected to remain critical suppliers even as global demand growth slows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oil Sands and Non-OPEC Producers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Canada stands out among non-OPEC countries, ranking fourth globally with 163 billion barrels of reserves. The majority of Canada\u2019s reserves come from oil sands, which are more expensive and carbon-intensive to extract. Russia and the United States also rank among the top 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taken together, the data highlights how unevenly oil resources are distributed and why oil-rich nations continue to have significant economic and geopolitical power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
