Scott Weiner<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/pennsylvania-house-passes-amendment-abortion-birth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/pennsylvania-house-passes-amendment-abortion-birth<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-divider ub_divider ub-divider-orientation-horizontal\" id=\"ub_divider_23a1bb36-bddc-429d-bf54-213fe0104e09\"><div class=\"ub_divider_wrapper\" style=\"position: relative; margin-bottom: 2px; width: 100%; height: 2px; \" data-divider-alignment=\"center\"><div class=\"ub_divider_line\" style=\"border-top: 2px solid #ccc; margin-top: 2px; \"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pennsylvania House narrowly passes amendment to allow abortion to birth<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>By Tabitha Goodling<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-54-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15056\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-54-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-54-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-54-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-54.png 1152w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>(<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/this-is-not-an-abortion-its-a-rescue-attempt-radical-pa-abortion-amendment-advances-propelled-by-outrageous-abortion-rhetoric\">Pregnancy Help News<\/a>) \u2014 The Pennsylvania House of Representatives narrowly passed an amendment to the state constitution last week that would allow abortion on demand up until birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 102-101<a href=\"https:\/\/pafamily.org\/2025\/12\/17\/how-did-your-state-rep-vote-on-the-abortion-on-demand-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\u00a0final House vote<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>held December 17, with two Democrats and two Republicans voting against, was the first of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/pennsylvanians-urged-to-stand-up-to-radical-abortion-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>seven radical abortion bills<\/strong><\/a> before the Pennsylvania legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local pro-life advocates are&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/an%20abortionist%E2%80%99s%20dream.\"><strong>calling the bill<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;an abortionist\u2019s dream, and if enacted, the most radical law in the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If passed,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/PA\/bill\/HB1957\/2025\"><strong>House Bill 1957<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;would enshrine abortion at all stages of pregnancy in the state constitution based upon so-called \u201cpersonal reproductive liberty\u201d and result in all current Pennsylvania restrictions and safeguards for abortion, including parental consent, informed consent, and the 24-hour waiting period, being overridden. Currently in Pennsylvania, abortion is legal until 24 weeks or the point of viability. The bill\u2019s broad language could also mean taxpayer-funded abortion and non-physicians committing abortions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Couched by supporters in \u201creproductive rights\u201d&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pahouse.com\/InTheNews\/NewsRelease\/?id=141490\"><strong>language<\/strong><\/a>, the bill is also&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.studentsforlifeaction.org\/students-for-life-action-calls-on-pennsylvania-house-to-reject-an-abortion-ballot-measure-so-radical-even-infanticide-is-on-the-table-pledges-to-engage-in-primaries-to-stop-the-bill\/\"><strong>feared<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to enable abortion practitioners to end the lives of viable born-alive infants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the radical abortion bill still has some hurdles to clear, pro-life advocates are also&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/pafamily.org\/2025\/12\/18\/house-vote-advances-extreme-abortion-amendment\/\"><strong>concerned<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;that pro-abortion voices, some making questionable statements regarding abortion, had an outsized impact on the House passage of the bill.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/pennsylvania-coalition-forms-to-protect-pregnancy-help-from-government-pushback\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(PPWC) has been publicly opposing HB 1957 since it was introduced earlier this year, with President Sarah Bowen and others in the Collaborative meeting repeatedly with legislators about their concerns over it and the<a href=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/pennsylvanians-urged-to-stand-up-to-radical-abortion-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\u00a0six other abortion-related bills<\/strong><\/a>before the legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Democrat Representative&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RepVenkat\/posts\/ahead-of-a-busy-last-week-of-legislative-session-in-2025-it-was-great-to-door-kn\/835586672718327\/\"><strong>Arvind Venkat<\/strong><\/a>, an emergency room doctor, testified before the House Judiciary Committee the day before the December 17 House vote approving HB 1957, making what Collaborative members deemed outrageous statements about late-term and elective abortions. Venkat also conflated emergency Cesarean section procedures with abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Venkat told the Judiciary Committee there is \u201cno such thing as an elective abortion\u201d at the end of a pregnancy, proceeding to present extreme scenarios of pregnant women experiencing cardiac arrest from trauma, hemorrhage, or sepsis, inferring the women would need abortion as an intervention &#8211; though discussing emergency C-sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs an emergency physician, I am trained to even perform what&#8217;s called a perimortem C-section, which is that when a pregnant woman comes in cardiac arrest and they are post-viability,\u201d Venkat said. \u201cIf we&#8217;re not able to resuscitate them, to actually perform a C-section in the emergency department post-mortem to try and deliver the fetus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Venkat said this procedure does not often work, and therefore the only choice is to keep a woman \u201cfrom death\u2019s door.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would urge this body to recognize the existing body of medical evidence and to support this amendment in recognizing that fetal viability is determinative and that we can make this judgment medically in medical circumstances,\u201d Venkat said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PPWC members are confident Venkat\u2019s testimony influenced the House Judiciary Committee to advance the bill to the House floor for a vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese lectures have an impact,\u201d said Amy Scheuring, executive director of Pittsburgh\u2019s Network of Life and PPWC member, \u201cand often are an effort to gain sympathy from legislators who may not normally vote in favor of third trimester abortion,\u201d but would consider it based on the testimony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scheuring, who had hosted Venkat for a tour of her center in the days before the House vote on HB 1975, part of an ongoing PPWC effort to invite legislators to pregnancy help centers since the&nbsp;<em>Dobbs<\/em>&nbsp;ruling, provided Venkat\u2019s statements to&nbsp;<em>Pregnancy Help News<\/em>&nbsp;from a video recording of the House Judiciary Committee hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If this law passes, Pennsylvania is cooked.
