By Frank Bergman<\/p>\n\n\n\n Canada\u2019s state broadcaster is once again under fire for glorifying the nation\u2019s spiraling euthanasia regime, this time celebrating after the government euthanized Alberta athlete and disability rights advocate Brian McPherson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n McPherson was killed by lethal injection at just 47 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He was euthanized under Canada\u2019s taxpayer-funded Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), which is part of the nation\u2019s socialized healthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) framed his death in strikingly upbeat language, writing<\/a> that \u201cMcPherson died by Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), after battling several health complications.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Predictably, the broadcaster presented MAiD as compassionate healthcare rather than what it is: Canada\u2019s government-endorsed expansion of \u201cassisted suicide\u201d into nearly every corner of public life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CBC even chose to spotlight a quote from McPherson\u2019s mother that reinforces the government\u2019s narrative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOver the last five years, he was, his body was shutting down,\u201d Judy McPherson told<\/a> the CBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe came to the house and he explained to his dad, annoyed that he was running out of steam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAs his mom and dad, you could see things were getting worse and worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBut I have to be very honest, it was the most peaceful way for him to go to sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n For disability rights advocates, who have spent years warning that Canada is pressuring vulnerable people into euthanasia, this is exactly the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A man who spent his life inspiring others with disabilities is now being used to promote a narrative they have fought \u201cvaliantly \u2014 even desperately \u2014 against.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n UN Rebuked Canada Over Its Euthanasia Expansion, CBC Barely Mentioned It<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Earlier this year, Inclusion Canada<\/a>, the country\u2019s top disability rights organization, took the Liberal government to the United Nations (UN) over its MAiD expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities issued a damning ruling, calling on Canada to repeal Track 2 MAiD and halt the planned expansion to those with mental illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe UN is clear that our country must do better in upholding the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities,\u201d Krista Carr, CEO of Inclusion Canada, said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cA top priority is Track 2 MAiD \u2013 a real and dangerous threat to the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. It must be repealed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite the severity of the international condemnation, CBC covered the UN rebuke only once<\/a>, while publishing dozens of articles casting euthanasia in a glowing<\/a>, personalized, and sympathetic light that tracks perfectly with the messaging of activist groups like Dying with Dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Death Canada Now Calls \u201cCompassion\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n CBC\u2019s obituary highlights McPherson\u2019s impressive achievements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022<\/strong> a World Cup\u2013winning para-bobsledder<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022<\/strong> a nationally ranked sledge hockey player<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022<\/strong> a star of CBC\u2019s Push, which chronicled friends \u201cnavigating their lives in wheelchairs\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022<\/strong> a fierce advocate for the disabled community<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022<\/strong> an athlete who overcame a devastating spinal injury at age 19<\/p>\n\n\n\n His story was one of grit, perseverance, and hope, a living reminder that disability does not mean despair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But the way Canada now frames his death tells a different story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It signals to other struggling people with disabilities that death is not only an option but a respectable, peaceful \u201csolution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yet, that is exactly what disability advocates have warned is happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sanitization of Suicide<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The most disturbing line in CBC\u2019s coverage is the one the state broadcaster deliberately chose to highlight:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt was the most peaceful way for him to go to sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n That is not journalism.
