An op_return transaction claims that the funds are now in custody of the Canadian Government.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-37.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-37.png 640w, https:\/\/jasonsblog.ddns.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image-37-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>TradeOgre is a custodial non-KYC exchange particularly popular among users of the privacy coin Monero. To sign up with TradeOgre, users needed nothing more than an email address. Two months ago, users first began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/monerosupport\/comments\/1mdktbg\/what_happened_to_tradeogre\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">noticing<\/a> that TradeOgre&#8217;s website went offline and the exchange had ceased all public communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This morning, for the first time since July 29th, TradeOgre funds are on the move \u2013 to an address allegedly controlled by the Canadian Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therage.co\/content\/images\/2025\/09\/Screenshot-2025-09-16-at-18.28.06.png\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">TradeOgre bitcoin balance over the past 3 months | source: <a href=\"https:\/\/intel.arkm.com\/explorer\/entity\/tradeogre\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arkham Intelligence<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 10th, an op_return transaction was funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.changenow.io\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360017456132-Does-ChangeNOW-require-registration\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">non-custodial exchange<\/a> ChangeNow carrying the following <a href=\"https:\/\/mempool.space\/tx\/e8a6c482503387d7215ce553c2b6157a2f6af574da2904c9bfba887f6ce9e646\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">message<\/a>: &#8220;Crypto assets controlled by the RCMP Cryptoactifs contrls par la GRC,&#8221; apparently referring to Canada&#8217;s national police force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This morning, the Bitcoin address associated with the op_return began loading up on hundreds of BTC, all coming from the exchange TradeOgre, according to Arkham Intelligence. Over the course of a little over four hours, <a href=\"https:\/\/mempool.space\/address\/bc1qzhcrstz2gkk4t7thg4wl3lwed8q0h0w0atfele\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the address<\/a> reached a balance of more than 126 BTC, or close to $15,000,000. At the same time, TradeOgre Ethereum funds seem to be <a href=\"https:\/\/intel.arkm.com\/explorer\/address\/0xC4bC3B5E66C461C3A57B21C85763Ad2306311630\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">drained<\/a> for another $17 Million. The same message <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/idm?addresses=0x5b477093208a5be2acf9057212fbe207896bb175,0xc4bc3b5e66c461c3a57b21c85763ad2306311630&amp;type=1\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appeared<\/a> on an Ethereum transaction associated with the drained ETH funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therage.co\/content\/images\/2025\/09\/Screenshot-2025-09-16-at-19.28.14.png\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Op_return message ascribing the draining of funds to the RCMP | source: <a href=\"https:\/\/mempool.space\/tx\/e8a6c482503387d7215ce553c2b6157a2f6af574da2904c9bfba887f6ce9e646\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mempool.space<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While there appears to be no requirement to publicly announce seizures on behalf of the Canadian Government, the op_return message, as well as the Ethereum IDM message, appear to either be some twisted joke to blame the Canadian Government for a hack or exit scam of TradeOgre \u2013 or, an officer of the RCMP with a particularly sad sense of humour thought it would be funny to ridicule TradeOgre users who just lost Millions of Dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because lets face it: even if the Canadian Government had seized the TradeOgre funds, it wouldn&#8217;t be any less of a robbery.
