He’s famous for drunk driving, hit and run, and recreational drug use; and he’s been busted actively cheating with performance enhancing drugs suffering suspension. But he was a money maker, and Dana White extends a lot of rope to guys that make the company big money selling pay per views. But it looks like this stain on professional MMA may finally be gone, and good riddance. If it seems that I really don’t like the guy, it’s because he goes around saying he’s Christian and blessed by God, dishonoring God, which if I were him that would be the thing I’d be most worried about. He even has a tattoo of a scripture on his chest, but you can judge this tree by its fruit. And how he’s living and acting is just bizarre. One has to wonder if he made the deal with the devil from which there is no coming back, and this is how he copes?

https://www.mmafighting.com/2025/6/21/24453494/jon-jones-hit-with-new-criminal-charge-in-new-mexico-for-leaving-scene-of-an-accident

By Damon Martin

Jon Jones

Jon Jones officially retired from fighting on Saturday, but now the former UFC heavyweight champion faces new legal trouble after charges were filed against him in New Mexico.

Court records obtained by MMA Fighting show Jones was charged on June 17 for leaving the scene of an accident (no great bodily harm or death) — a misdemeanor — but the date of the alleged incident is actually listed as Feb. 24. There’s no word why it took months for formal charges to be filed, but Jones is due back in court for a bond arraignment on June 24.

The Albuquerque Journal first reported that the charges stem from a car accident where a woman was found in the front passenger seat of one of the vehicles involved and she was “exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.”

The woman reportedly told police Jones was the driver of the vehicle, but he fled the scene on foot. She then called Jones on the phone, and a police service aide claimed the person on the phone, who they believed to be Jones, “appeared to be heavily intoxicated and made statements implying his capacity to employ lethal force through third parties.”

When a police officer spoke to Jones, he allegedly made “allusions to violence” as well but never answered directly when asked to identify himself.

Police say they eventually interviewed Jones in person a few days later, and he claimed the woman found in the car had left his house earlier in the day and was intoxicated. Jones claimed she called him after getting in the crash, and the person she handed the phone to “immediately opened the conversations with unprofessional language, which led him to doubt the legitimacy of the individual’s claim.”

The woman involved in the accident told police she allegedly drank alcohol and consumed mushrooms at Jones’ house and stated she needed to change clothes, but “her next recollection was being at the scene of a traffic accident.” She told police the last person she remembered driving her vehicle was Jones.

The police report states Jones called the woman’s phone a total of 13 times from the time of the crash until the next morning, and he also sent her text messages as well.

This is far from the first time Jones has found himself in legal trouble.

In 2015, Jones was arrested and faced a felony charge for a hit-and-run accident when his vehicle ran a red light and ended up crashing into two cars – the driver of one of the vehicles was pregnant at the time – and he fled the scene on foot. He eventually pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and was granted a conditional release with up to 18 months of supervised probation along with community service.

That incident led to the UFC stripping Jones of his light heavyweight title and suspending him from the company.

Jones has also faced multiple DWI charges during his career.

The news about this latest charge comes on the same day Jones retired from competition as the UFC heavyweight champion. Jones last fought back in November 2024 but he remained undecided on whether or not he would actually return to compete again.

He eventually decided to hang up his gloves and relinquish the UFC heavyweight title with Tom Aspinall now promoted to undisputed champion.

A lot of people call Jon Jones the G.O.A.T. of the UFC, but he’s more like the jackass of the UFC.
