Costco just can’t stay out of the news. I suppose this will be mute once they finalize a union contract<\/a>, which will put seniority over race and sexual perversion, with merit still at the bottom if left up to these miscreants in charge. Consequently, if you have a Costco membership you can cancel it and get a full refund unless they’ve changed that policy (we did in 2020). It’s sad to see how the board has been compromised and the organization changed over time. We don’t have any in Wyoming, and I hope it stays that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of 19 state attorneys general is pushing retail warehouse giant Costco to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI<\/a>) initiatives. Led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton<\/a> and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird<\/a>, the group\u2014in a letter<\/a> to Costco CEO Ron Vachris\u2014alleges the company is maintaining DEI policies deemed illegal<\/a> by some courts and likely in contravention of a recent executive order signed<\/a> by President Donald J. Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2026 urge Costco to end all unlawful discrimination imposed by the company through diversity<\/a>, equity, and inclusion (\u2018DEI\u2019) policies,\u201d the attorneys general write<\/a>. They add: \u201cAlthough Costco\u2019s motto is \u2018do the right thing,\u2019 it appears that the company is doing the wrong thing\u2014clinging to DEI policies that courts<\/a> and businesses have rejected as illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the letter cites recent Supreme Court precedent on race-based college admissions, suggesting Republicans at the state level may soon push for a broader ruling on DEI and other discriminatory programs. \u201cThe Supreme Court has repeatedly warned against using race-based preferences and classifications. Most recently, Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard<\/em> explained that \u2018Distinctions between citizens solely because of their ancestry are by their very nature odious to a free people whose institutions are founded upon the doctrine of equality,’\u201d the attorneys general contend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Costco has not yet responded. Previously, the company\u2019s shareholders rejected a proposal by the National Center for Public Policy Research to assess the risks associated with DEI practices. This proposal suggested that DEI could conceal a radical agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, other companies like Target and Walmart<\/a> are either scaling back their diversity initiatives or shuttering them entirely. This trend follows criticism from conservative activists, backed by court<\/a> decisions and the subsequent Trump White House ban on DEI programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
